do you think the fundamental problem with TLOK is simply that it's too compressed? i think most of the characters do learn something by the end of it, but we spend so little time on any of them that you really have to look for this stuff.

I think the fundamental problem is that it set up all this great potential but it all ended up being kind of half-assed. Like they just chose the most shallow way to deal with all the characters and conflicts on this show. My question will always be - why introduce something if you’re not gonna deal with it properly? like what’s the point of having it there just to be there (like the romance or bolin or this non-bender oppression plot). That’s the problem when your show is ambitious, if you don’t live up to expectations, it falls much flatter than if you had been more modest.
