I have no idea. They can be assholes all they want in private but they should know better than to do this publicly. At the end of the day, they’re representing a show that’s aimed at kids and has millions of viewers who are very young. Imagine young girls hearing Dante “acting” as Zuko saying he’s dumping a girl because she’s too fat. That’s such a horrible thing to say in general but it’s even worse when your show is on a children’s network. What kind of screwed up message are you sending.

I don’t think it would matter for voice acting. It’s not like he can do anything about the writing or he can refuse to do the scenes where Zuko is affectionate towards Mai just cause he doesn’t like it. In live action, you can do stuff with your face and body language but with VA? They give you things to say and you say them.
His voice takes getting used to, that’s for sure. For the longest time, I could not watch Season 1 Zuko scenes without cracking up.
Character(s): The Gaang
Rating: M
Pairings: Kataang
Words: 2000+ (this one got kind of carried away)
Prompt: ‘When they discover that Katara is pregnant for the first time, Aang and Katara stress about beginning this new phase in their life.’
A/N: Loosely based around the prompt, but it does deal with Kataang finding out, and dealing with, this new beginning in their life. Also sex.Katara finds she does some of her best thinking late at night, when she’s curled up next to her husband, his sweat cooling on her skin.
He did say that he liked Zutara because of Mae Whitman and the fact that he’s worked with her before when she was 12 and has “watched her grow up”. Which is sweet but when you use that as a reason why you think your characters should be romantically linked… it’s a little awkward, especially when you’re a 35 year old man talking about a pre-teen/teenage girl.
I haven’t seen this myself but I so wouldn’t be surprised. We’ve already gotten some gross comments from Bill and Mako’s VA. Such a shame that people who worked on a show that’s quite progressive in terms of female representation (err, atla at least) can still be assholes about women.
I don’t think he works in the entertainment business anymore so I wouldn’t be surprised if he never shows up to any of these things. Honestly, I’m kind of glad he stayed away from L.A. and all this fandom stuff, and focused on school. He was just a kid at the time, it was probably for the best.

They probably didn’t see each other that much. Voice work can be done separately. If they did, then I hope he at least kept this to himself. Although he doesn’t exactly hide his boner for Mae Whitman.
Yeah, one of the biggest reasons why zutara is 4ever blacklisted for me. I can no longer separate the ship from the awful shit the shippers did. I mean, jfc Mai isn’t remotely fat on the show and they somehow found a way to fat shame her. (other zutarian gems include calling katara a pedophile and calling aang a rapist)
Yeaaa.. not sure if he’s being passive aggressive or if he is really too dumb to spell a 4-letter name that he spent 3 years seeing in scripts.
Yeah, I would do it but I was honestly so disgusted by it that I have no desire to ever go near it again.
Okay why do people always ignore Mai’s existence? In that comic con panel, when Mae Whitman and Dante Basco were asked about Zutara, Whitman talked about how she thought it would be extremely difficult to break up Aang and Katara as if that’s the only roadblock but neither of them even acknowledge that Zuko also has a girlfriend already. The way Dante goes on about how he “didn’t get the girl”, what the fuck. Zuko did get the girl he wanted, a really awesome girl who saved his ass. Jfc, Dante. I know you ship Zutara but Mai exists and not only as an offensive fat joke created by caps_zutara that you chose to associate yourself with.
Yeah I think she was just bring polite cause she was sitting next to Dante and he is still so hung up on Zutara for some reason but obviously the way she talked about Kataang shows that she knows her character. Even if there were other potential pairings, it would be too difficult to break Aang and Katara’s bond.
I liked the canon ships (in the books. the movies were kind of messed up by Steve Kloves), except like Dan, I also thought Harry/Luna had potential. I wasn’t like super against anything either though? I just thought it was really obvious what Jo was going for from the beginning. As she said herself, they were anvil sized hints. Although admittedly, I wasn’t as passionate about the young characters and I mostly fangirled over Sirius Black for most of my time in fandom.
